Liquid Crystal Compounds have an order even in a liquid state. The left microphotograph was observed in polarized light microscopy of a rodlike compound (room temperature, X200).which is used for liquid crystal displays. The material is a suspended wihte oil. The compound is colorized in rainbow colors by using two polarlized filters. The texture does not have any linear parts, and has curved lines. which indicates a nature of the flexible molecular aggregates. |
Electric field, magnetic field, pressure, temperature, condition of the surface give the influence to the molecular aggregates, and they show the difference of the condition and atomosphere to us.But Liquid Crystals are not only for liquid crystal displays. Cell membranes are made of phosphoric lipids, and nurves are composed with mielin. They are liquid crystalline molecules. Animals and plants selected these materials as the important part of the bodies, because the liquid crystalline materials generate some orders with keeping their fluidities. These days, it is known that LC molecules exhibit many kinds of molecular aggregates. Their Application for memory devices, emission devices, conductive materials, and optical materials. are carried out. |
